Universiti Brunei Darussalam's Faculty of
Science will be organising its 4'h UBD Science and Technology
Week 2007 (S&T Week) at the Chancellor Hall from June 26,
carrying the theme "Nurturing Talent through Science and
Technology", which will see five career talks this morning.
The expected speakers are
Mahmud Hj Jeludin from BAG Networks, Norihranmiza Hj Ramlee of
Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd, BEDB's Stakeholder Relations Senior Officer
Abd Rahman Abd Aziz, Mr Yasumasa Takuma - Deputy Director of
CICC (Singapore), and Newas Ukoi, Secretary General at the
Brunei Institution of Geomatics (BIG).
The first speaker is going to
give a seminar entitled "BAG Networks Overview". Currently
theAssistant Service Operations Manager for BAG Networks, he had
also previously worked with DST for nearly eight years as an IT
billing Operations Manager and as a Simpur Network Operations
Manager. Prior to this, he worked as a Unix System Administrator
at RBA for about a year.
The second career talk from
Norihramniza will be called "`Behind the Scenes' of a Utilities
Technologist in BLNG". She studied BSc Construction Management
at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and
Technology (UMIST). For a year from 2001, she worked at BLNG as
a Gas Treating Technologist. Since 2002, she has taken the role
of Utilities Technologist.
The next career talk is
entitled "Entrepreneur or Technopreneur? Career Opportunities
under Brunei Economic Development Board" by Abd Rahman, who
plays an important role in managing and driving stakeholder
relations as well as external communications for BEDB. Prior to
this, he held several posts at HSBC, including one as the
Institutional Banking Relationship Manager.
"Introduction to FLOSS"
meanwhile will feature parallel session presentations from
various members of the Centre of International Cooperation for
Computerisation (CICC).
The next speaker, Mr Steven
Yong - Head of the RF Networks for DST Group of Companies, will
give a talk on the "Career Opportunities in the
Telecommunications Industry".
The last talk will be about
"The Challenge of the Geometric Industry". Prior to working at
BIQ Mr Ukoi was a chartered and practising Land Surveyor with
the Survey Department from 1986 to 1996.
