BAG Networks holds training course

Bandar Seri Begawan
ORGANISATIONS need a way to manage an integrated approach to their software and systems engineering as part of meeting their business objectives.

With this in mind, BAG Networks Sdn Bhd had conducted a three-day training course on "Introduction to Capability Maturity Model Integration", which culminated with prize presentation yesterday.

This introductory course, held at the Orchid Garden Hotel in Berakas, was part of BAG Networks' ongoing improvement programme to raise the level of awareness of IT professionals in Brunei Darussalam. Some 23 participants made up of IT professionals and senior executives from the government and employees of BAG Networks attended the course.

Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) is a process improvement approach that provides organisations with the essential elements of effective processes. It can be used to guide process improvement across a project, a division or an entire organisation.

It helps integrate traditionally separate organisational functions, set process improvement goals and priorities, provide guidance for quality processes, and provide a point of reference for appraising current processes.

The course was conducted by Doug Hamilton, member of the American Society for Quality Certified Software Quality Engineer (CSQE), Project Management Institute.

With 29 years experience of software development and quality under his belt, he is currently a Software Engineering Institute (SEI) authorised instructor for introduction to CMMI.

Among the topics covered were the model-based process improvement, CMMI components, process areas of CMMI models and structure of the continuous and staged representations.

A representative from the Ministry of Defence, who took part in the course, said that it will be very helpful to system analysts and IT project managers.

Mahmud Hj Jeludin, assistant service operations manager of BAG Networks Sdn Bhd, in his address to the participants said that he expected company employees to put into practice what they had learned in the course. This is to ensure "the delivery of quality products and services and hence the survival of the organisation".

"This course will hopefully improve our organisation as a whole," he said.

All the participants received their certificates at yesterday's function.

Speaking to The Brunei Times, Latifah Hanum Md Jaman, 24, assistant manager of AiTi, said that putting into practice the principles will be the hardest part."Theory is easy."

"The course helps us identify a problem in the early stages so that we can rectify it," said Rachel Salleh, a large account reseller analyst at BAG Networks.
