BAG Networks Marks First

– BAG Networks Sdn Bhd yesterday marked its very first
International Women's Day (I WD) celebration at the Orchid Garden
Hotel.
Themed `Success in Action: The many
ways that women influence and shape the business world,' the
afternoon celebration opened with a welcoming speech by BAG Networks
General Manager Mohd Shakharulnain Mohd Thani.
After lunch, BAG Networks delivered a
short presentation on the history of International Women's Day.
Present at the celebration were Deputy
Permanent Secretary at Ministry of Education Dayang Apsah binti Hj
Abd Majid, High Court Judge at Supreme Court Datin Paduka Hjh Hayati
bte Pehin Orang Kaya Shahbandar Dato Seri Paduka Hj Mohd Salleh,
Ministry of Finance Acting Deputy A ountant General Hjh Suriyah Hj
Umar, Ministry of Defence Acting Director of Finance and Acquisition
Miss Ang Guat Lay, Ministry of Health Acting Assistant Director of
Finance Puan Hjh Rosinah Hj Abas, Community Development Department
Assistant Director Hjh Noridah bte Abd Hamid, Women Business Council
Vice President Datin Paduka Hjh Rokiah bte Hj Zakiah, Women Business
Council Treasurer Puan Hjh Rosmah Hj Hasbollah, and Brunei Speakers'
Club President Dr Melanie Chin.
BAG Networks is a joint venture company
between the governments of Brunei aid Accenture. With a staff rate
comprising over 50 per cent females,' the celebration aimed to
honour the hard work and contribution offered by these women to the
company.
Three successful and influential local
women from both the private and public sectors were invited to share
their work experiences and inspirational stories at the celebration.
Representing the women at BAG Networks,
Dyg Rosnani Hj Lamat was the first speaker.
Next up was Hjh Suriyah Hj Umar; who
spoke of the joy and challenges she faced throughout her career.
Concluding her speech she said "We should not let gender be an
obstacle for us to achieve whatever we want, but more importantly we
have to prove ourselves through hardwork, honesty and by being true
to ourselves."
Meanwhile, High Court Judge Datin
Paduka Hjh Hayati bte Pehin Orang Kaya Shahbandar Dato Seri Paduka
Hj Mohd Salleh shared her personal experience as a woman taking on a
non-traditional role.
She emphasised that for working
mothers, it is important for men to support and share family
responsibilities: She hopes that the success of women in our society
today has paved the pathway and served as an inspiration for the
younger generation of women to follow.
After individual speeches, all guests
later engaged in a relaxing discussion on women balancing work with
family life.
The celebration concluded with a live
webcast - from Accenture Manila and Bangalore featuring prominent
international women speakers.
